MultiVersus is no longer the most popular fighting game on PC, nor is it even #2
MultiVersus absolutely destroyed records when it was released this Summer as the biggest fighting game launch on PC ever, but it’s apparently failed to maintain that momentum and initial success in the following months.
Where Warner Bros. platform fighter once eclipsed the rest of the genre’s active players on Steam combined, MultiVersus has exponentially dropped in its user count to the point where it can’t be even the definitive number two in terms of popularity.
Right now, MultiVersus sits with 2,938 players online and a 24-hour peak of 3,187 players according to Steam Charts, which is pretty decent in the realm of PC fighting games all things considered.
It is, however, an absolute far cry from when the game hit its absolute peak of 153,044 players, meaning that 98% of those people are no longer actively hopping on.
Fighting games have almost always dropped in player counts a few months after launch, but that meteoric launch has made that decrease look all the more extreme.
As a rare free-to-play title in the genre with big backing, it makes sense MVS would see that boost to its start while apparently not giving those people enough reason to stick around.
MultiVersus was pegged as a potential Brawlhalla killer with its similarly wide availability, structure and even better presentation, which hasn’t really panned out yet entirely.
Brawlhalla is once again the biggest fighter on Steam with a very comfortable lead of 13,414 players as its current 24-hour peak.
Tekken 7 is also now consistently outperforming MultiVersus as well with its impressive peak of the past day being 7,268 active users.

While the dip facing MultiVersus is significant, the game is far from struggling, especially when put up against the other big fighter releases this year.
DNF Duel’s numbers are absolutely dismal with only 47 people being together representing today’s best outlook compared to when it hit over 12,000 concurrent players at launch.
The King of Fighters 15 is faring a bit better yet still vastly under-performing next to its competition as the game’s highest point this past month only hit 664.
MultiVersus undeniably has detracting factors pushing people away whether it’s the content’s grindy nature, a lack of compelling new releases and the fact it’s still in an unstable, unfinished beta state.
Warner Bros. proved they have something the general gaming populace is very interested in, but they’ve also completely dropped the ball when it came to prove its staying factor.
It’s going to be very interesting to see how many players will flock back to MultiVersus once the crossover game hits its full release though it may very well continue to fall further before then.
