Nolan Winter Commits to Wisconsin

Greg Gard and Wisconsin have the final piece of their 2023 recruiting puzzle.

On Friday, Lakeville (Minn.) North forward Nolan Winter announced his commitment to the Badgers, choosing UW over Stanford, Xavier, Minnesota, Wake Forest, Nebraska, Oregon State, and others.

The three-star forward took his official visit to Madison the weekend of Aug. 3, which helped seal the deal.

“I got a more in-depth tour of the campus,” Winter told Badger247 last month. “It was cool, I liked it a lot. It’s really a college town and they really care about their sports, which is cool. You can just tell that everyone takes Badger sports really seriously. It’s really cool to see.

“There’s just something different about that town. Everybody just wants to win. Everywhere you go on campus, they’re all with you. That campus is just unbelievable. I really like the school, State Street. They’re gonna get some new facilities, new locker room.

UW offered Winter at camp in June of 2021. Assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft was the lead recruiter for Winter.

“I love him,” Winter said. “Our relationship has really grown over the last year. He was one of the first to reach out and really never stopped. It’s really cool to see how much our relationship has grown. He’s super relatable off the court too. He goes fishing, stuff He’s really easy to talk to.

“We all like him a lot.”

The Badgers hope the 6-foot-10 Winter can develop and mimic perhaps one of the best to do it a UW uniform.

“He (Gard) stressed how bad they need me and want me,” Winter said. “They can see me as a stretch ‘4’. Over my time in college, transitioning to the ‘3.’ They compared me to John Leuer a lot, even a little Sam Dekker.

“Once I physically get stronger, they can see me playing a lot in college and thriving in their system.”

A product of Lakeville North High School, Winter follows alums Nate Reuvers and Tyler Wahl to Madison. Winter will be the 14th scholarship Minnesota native to play for the Badgers in the 247sports composite era.

Winter is the fourth commitment for UW in 2023, joining John Blackwell (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), Gus Yalden (Appleton, Wis.), and preferred walk-on Jack Janicki (White Bear Lake, Minn.).

Per 247sports, Winter is the nation’s No. 34 ranked power forward in the class of 2023. Stay tuned for more on his commitment.
